Blind
Pig 1228 W. Sixth St. Cleveland, OH has no cover with live
blues and rock on Friday and Saturday nights. The Blind Pig also
serves up an endless supply of pizza, sandwiches and various baked
goods to complement the full bar. Work off the edible treats on
the basement dance floor, which features enough club music to
get your adrenaline pumping.
Blue
Moose Saloon 9387 W. Sprague Road Cleveland, OH has a mounted
moose wearing a sombrero. This is one crazy saloon. All types
of tchotchkes and wartime memorabilia grace the walls of this
rec room-cum-chic tavern, making it an especially homey place
for the world-weary locals. The Moose aspires to be "king
of the wing," and the menu offers a blinding assortment of
sauces that includes a respectably tangy teriyaki. A good pick
for lunch is any variety of grilled chicken sandwich. But the
center of activity here is the raucous bar; if you're into people-watching,
it offers the perfect vantage point. And, lucky you, there are
crowds aplenty, particularly on the weekends, when the Moose has
been known to rock out with live music.
Dive
Bar 1214 W. 6th Street Cleveland, OH. The owners made no mistake
when naming it. The Warehouse District is not short on trendy
spots. It needs a place like this. Hence: Dive Bar featuring a
"wall" of draft beers of 42 varieties.
D'Vine
Wine Bar 826 W Saint Clair Ave Cleveland, OH When it comes
to top-notch wine, Clevelanders know where to go. This Warehouse
District hot spot offers wine "flights" four 2-ounce
tastes of wines, grouped based on variety, geography or style.
You can also order bottles of wines or choose from a selection
of beers and martinis or from a full bar. The small building's
large main room retains its early-1900s industrial look, with
exposed brick and stone walls and giant chandeliers with large,
round glass globes.
Major
Hoopple's River Bed Café 1930 Columbus Rd Cleveland,
OH is the kind of place that really looks down on the city of
Cleveland; literally. From its large windows, patrons have one
of the best views of the skyline found anywhere in the city. Of
course, you have to look beyond the bar itself, where there's
a decent selection of bottles and drafts, as well as your typical
array of spirits. The bar likens itself to a sports bar with a
busy dartboard crowd. Hoopple's is comfortably blue collar from
its patrons to its music. If there's any space, make sure to grab
a seat near the front of the bar, where the terrific skyline view
is most unencumbered.
Johnny
Malloy's 17103 Detroit Ave. Cleveland, OH. A sports bar
in Lakewood, Johnny Malloy's gives many reasons to love it. The
energy at this favorite after-work locale is frenetic, loud and
wild enough to blot out the bleakest of dour Mondays. The bar
walls are literally lined with TV sets that are perfect for patrons
who like to complain about the Tribe's bullpen or who enjoy playing
network trivia. The happy-hour nosh of choice is the ribs, which
have won the top prize at the Cleveland Rib Cook Off for several
years running. And leave it up to Johnny's to find other ways
to bring in those patrons. They've got a golf league, Saturday
night ladies' night and Fat Guy Sundays. Go ahead: We dare you
to ask them about it.
Park
View Night Club 1261 W 58th Street Cleveland, OH Gone are
the days when the best Park View diners could hope for was a grilled
cheese and a side of fries. Now, lucky visitors to the near West
neighborhood pub can stroll past the well-worn jukebox, take a
table under a portrait of the Rat Pack and order smoked scallops
served with an avocado cream sauce. The macadamia-crusted goat
cheese found on one salad is a long way from the aforementioned
humble American on white. The old Park View was more a shot-and-beer
joint than a place to take Grandma for eggs on Sunday morning.
Take another look the brunch menu here is as good as any in town,
featuring such A-list items as the "crabby crepe," stuffed
with the crab and cheddar and blanketed in a champagne cream sauce.
There's a lively nightlife scene as well, with sports fans during
earlier hours and live music later. Drinks are as diverse as the
food menu, catering to suds lovers as well as those who prefer
an electric-blue martini.
Winking
Lizard Tavern 1852 Coventry Road Cleveland Heights, OH
With 11 locations throughout greater Cleveland, Akron and Canton,
there's a Winking Lizard within a short drive of just about everywhere,
including in the shadows of Jacobs Field in the Gateway District.
Beer is the beverage of choice here, with a staggering 100 draft
selections available at each location. Plenty of bottles, both
domestics and imports, also reside in the Lizard coolers. Check
out all the sporting events on a multitude of televisions while
sampling typical sports bar fare, highlighted by some of the best
wings around. Lizard wings come in a dozen flavors, from mild
to 911. Known for its crazy menus, which can take an entire visit
to read from start to finish, the Winking Lizard taverns are roomy,
open and usually well lighted. They're ideal for watching the
big game or just winding down with a cold one after work.
